Focus Report

Qatar’s economic diversification agenda is increasing demand for technically skilled, adaptable and industry-ready talent. As the country advances towards a more knowledge-based economy under Qatar National Vision 2030 and the Third National Development Strategy, closer alignment between education systems and labour market needs is central.

Produced in partnership with the University of Doha for Science and Technology (UDST), this report examines the role of applied higher education in supporting workforce development, productivity and long-term competitiveness. It explores how industry-linked learning, work-based training and employer engagement can strengthen school-to-work transitions, address skills gaps and support priority sectors including digital technologies, logistics, health care and aviation.

The publication also considers the growing importance of innovation, lifelong learning and international collaboration in shaping future workforce capabilities, while assessing how applied education can contribute to economic diversification and labour market responsiveness in Qatar and beyond.
