The Report: Philippines 2010 examines economy and investment opportunities

The leading global publishing and research company Oxford Business Group today launched The Report: Philippines 2010, the product of an in-depth and wide-ranging investigation into the health of the country’s economy.

The 188-page report, launched at “The Philippines: Opportunities in the Global Recovery,” economic briefing held by The Investor Relations Office today, includes a detailed, sector-by-sector guide for foreign investors, as well as interviews with prominent political and business leaders. The Report: Philippines 2010 features contributions from President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo; Jaime Augusto Zobel de Ayala, Chairman and CEO of the Ayala Corporation; Manuel V Pangilinan, Chairman of Philippine Long Distance Telephone Company, and Ramon Ang, President and COO of San Miguel Corporation.

Other high profile personalities including Amando Tetangco Jr, Governor of Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas; Angelo Reyes, Secretary of Energy; Edgardo Lacson, President, Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry; and Ambassador Michael Tay, Executive Director of Asian-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Secretariat also give their views on economic development across the Philippines.

Paulius Kuncinas, OBG’s Regional Editor for Asia, said that the country’s limited exposure to world markets had helped it avoid the worst of the global financial crisis. “Thanks to conservative regulation and the reforms of recent years, the global financial crisis has had only a minor impact on the banking system of the Philippines. The government has, however taken the opportunity to launch a major fiscal stimulus plan, while improving the investment environment and making revenue collection more efficient”.

He continued, “The Philippines faces major challenges in providing efficient transport infrastructure as a result of its complex geography. The policy of spreading out the populace more evenly has placed more focus on developing transport networks, an issue that is currently being tackled with a $16bn programme.”

Kuncinas also acknowledged the key part that OBG’s partners had played in contributing to The Report: Philippines 2010. “Our partners have detailed knowledge of the significant developments taking place in the Philippines,” he said. “By pooling resources and sharing business intelligence, they have undoubtedly helped OBG to produce a report containing high-level credible and accurate analysis which the international business community will find invaluable.”

The Report: Philippines2010 has been produced in partnership with Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP), Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry,  Citisec Online Securities as the capital markets partner, Punongbayan & Araullo as the accountancy partner and Romulo Mabanta Buenaventura Sayoc & de los Angeles as legal partners.
