BuildTech Yangon 2016

Organised by Sphere Exhibits, a subsidiary of Singapore Press Holdings (SPH), and co-organised by the Myanmar Construction Entrepreneurs Association (MCEA), BuildTech Yangon 2016 returns this year with an expanded focus, taking to the stage some 120 exhibiting companies showcasing equipment, machinery and solutions on facilities management, interior finishing and architectural solutions. This is in addition to its array of staple exhibits from the construction machinery building materials and mechanical engineering segments.

This new focus is in line with recent developments in Myanmar’s construction sector which is booming following the opening up of Myanmar’s economy to the world. Meanwhile, increased awareness of construction and workplace safety has given rise to a greater focus on safety and disaster prevention in this year’s BuildTech Yangon. The show of an extensive showcase from Austria, China, Indonesia, Korea, Thailand, Vietnam, Singapore and Myanmar is expected to attract over 4,500 visitors.

U Tha Htay, President of Myanmar Construction Entrepreneurs Association (MCEA), said: “The 3rd edition of BuildTech Yangon 2016 is indeed timely, with the new government preparing to take the reins to usher in a new era for the country. With the government prioritising infrastructure development in support of the country’s burgeoning economic growth, the infrastructure construction in Myanmar is expected to achieve its fastest growth from the period 2012 to 2016.

“The infrastructure construction sector is the second largest market in the Myanmar construction industry that is worth an estimated US$765 million. The government’s focus on improving infrastructure in Myanmar will see the major development of new roads, buildings, pipelines and electrical grids. At the same time, a sharp rise in foreign direct investment has seen a big growth in demand for new office space as well as housing for expatriates. There are many growth opportunities in Myanmar’s building and construction sector and BuildTech Yangon is proud to be part of this growth.”

Booming building and construction industry in Myanmar poised for growth

Myanmar’s construction industry is expected to continue growing at a relatively fast pace compared to other emerging markets from 2015 to 2019. This positive outlook is supported by Myanmar’s expanding economy, increased government investment in public infrastructure, and the rising interest of domestic and foreign real estate developers in constructing residential units to meet the population’s housing demand. In real terms, the industry’s output value recorded a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 7.4 percent during the period 2010 to 2014, and is expected to post a CAGR of 6.0 percent from 2015 to 2019, according to a report from research firm Timetric.

Advancing Myanmar’s building and construction sector with technological solutions

The trade exhibition will also feature key profiles centering on four main sectors: Onsite Construction Machinery and Equipment; Building Materials and Architectural Solutions; Interior Furnishing; and Facilities Management. Mr. Chua Wee Phong, Chairman of Sphere Exhibits Pte Ltd, said: “We are happy to be co-organising BuildTech Yangon together with MCEA for the third consecutive year. Bridging the gap with specialised focus on education and training

Construction Safety and Work at Heights are key highlights in this year’s BuildTech Yangon Business Seminar Series which returns for the second year. The seminar will cover a range of topics addressing key concerns in foreign investment, recent developments in construction laws governing building and construction investment in Myanmar, and infrastructure and construction management. Delegates will benefit from a conducive knowledge-based sharing platform featuring leading local and international industry practitioners in this much anticipated, complimentary three-day seminar series.

Two one-and-a-half day tracked seminars focusing on Workplace Safety and Facilities Management have been added to the range of seminars for local professionals who are keen to attend a more technical and focused seminar platform. These seminars come with certificates of attendance from MCEA as well as industry points from Myanmar Engineering Council as part of its effort to encourage continued skills upgrading for professionals in the building construction sector. Several panel discussions revolving around disaster and safety management as well as safety in vertical construction will be conducted in the Workplace Safety Seminar Programme. The Facilities Management Seminar Programme explores innovative solutions for the building and construction sector in Myanmar; a closer look at energy efficiency, analytics and green building management among others.

We are delighted to be celebrating these special occasions at BuildTech Yangon,” said U Tha Htay. The Industry Networking Evening will take place on 26 May, while the MCEA Annual General Meeting and MCEA’s Golden 20 Jubilee Gala & Awards Presentation will be held on 27 May at the Myanmar Convention Centre.

Visitor pre-registration for BuildTech Yangon 2016 is now open until 13 May 2016. Delegates attending all seminars are entitled to continuing industry development
points by the Myanmar Engineering Council.

disappointment. Only 100 seats are available for the seminar series in workplace
safety and facilities management for industry professionals.
