Nairobi will play host to the 9th AITEC Common Market for East and Southern Africa (COMESA) conference on banking and mobile money.

With the theme, ‘Inspire, Innovate and Implement’, this year’s conference fits well with the Kenyan government’s emphasis on innovation for economic growth will attract key speakers from the financial sector and the internet security.

The two-day event which runs on September 15-16 will be officially opened by the Cabinet Secretary for Treasury, Mr. Henry Rotich.

The event will bring together key players in the industry who will challenge bankers on the services the bankers’ don’t realize they need, the conference will consist of intensive conference sessions and workshops that cover the latest trends and strategies for both mobile money and wider banking ecosystem.

Among the industry gurus that will grace the opening panel include Chibuzo Ene, CEO Nathan Claire Kenya and Nigeria, Barry Cpetzee, CEO and founder iVeri South Africa, Shomiron Da Gupto CEO and founder Net monastery , Bernard Mathewman CEO Paynet Group.

Coming a month after US President Obama-graced summit held here in Kenya, the conference intends to challenge banking leaders to adopt innovative business strategies and technologies to promote financial inclusion, maximize customer service, drive down costs – and ultimately contribute to achieving the Kenyan government’s vision of developing Nairobi as an international Centre of excellence for financial services.

Key topics in the conference include CRM and Claims Processing, Business Process, Management, M-Insurance, Micro insurance, Agricultural Insurance, Health Insurance, Pensions, Systems & Management, Virtualization & Cloud Systems, Core Systems Modernization.

Speaking in last year’s edition that focused at SME financing, Sean Maroney, Chairman AITEC Africa and conference organizer challenged institutions to innovate and continue reaping the benefits of mobile money and provide customer experience.

This year’s edition will focus majorly on security, featuring briefings on the latest cyber threats to the financial services sector, with practical demonstrations, a master-class, expert presentations and panel discussions to pool the knowledge and experience among peers facing common challenges.
