CEO Survey in Figures

Following a difficult climatic year that saw severe floods and drought weigh on growth, C-suite executives surveyed in OBG’s Business Barometer: Sri Lanka CEO Survey appear to be generally optimistic that clearer skies are ahead. Three-quarters of CEOs had positive or very positive expectations about local business conditions for 2018, with 56% forecasting GDP expansion to range 4-5%, which is broadly in line with the central bank’s estimates of 5-5.5%. However, if Sri Lanka is to reach the Vision 2025 target of becoming a knowledge-based economy, the ongoing “brain drain” will have to be addressed, with CEOs naming a variety of skills in need.

This survey has been designed to assess business sentiment amongst business leaders (Chief Executives or equivalent) and their outlook for the next 12 months. Unlike many surveys, the OBG Business Barometer is conducted by OBG staff on a face-to-face basis, across the full range of industries, company sizes and functional specialties. The results are anonymous.

OBG Business Barometer is based on data from companies with revenue within the following parameters, among others:

• 95% of companies surveyed were private
• 34% of companies surveyed were international
• 61% of companies surveyed were local
• 5% of companies surveyed were regional

The data generated allows for analysis of sentiment within an individual country, as well as regionally and globally. Additionally, comparisons can be drawn between both individual countries and regionally. The results are presented statistically within infographics and discussed in articles written by OBG Managing Editors.
