South East Asia’s large population, rapid expanding middle class and booming economies provide the perfect ingredients for rising investment and demand in air travel, both locally and internationally. The aviation sector is estimated to grow at a rate of 8 per cent per annum in the next two decades. Moreover, The ASEAN Open Skies will generate an additional 16.3 million international passengers by 2025. It all results in a wide range of current or planned investments in new airport development, expansion, upgrading and international cooperation in countries like Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam and many more.
With some 17,000 islands, the distance from the west to east is greater than London to Moscow, a population of about 250 million and a rapidly growing middle class consumers, Indonesia’s increasing demand for bigger airports is particularly intense. The country is preparing to build and relocate a total of 45 airports over the next decade.
