Highlights of GIES 2013
The Global Islamic Economy Summit 2013 will be the first forum for Islamic Finance sectors and the Halal industries – including food, travel and lifestyle – to engage in meaningful discussions, tackle the most important challenges and chart paths for the future of the Islamic Economy.

The GIES attendees will also have the opportunity to hear the latest updates and trends within the global Islamic economy and access high-level speakers.

Islamic Economy Award
Business leaders who are inspiring the future of the Islamic economy will be recognized with an Islamic Economy Award at the Opening Ceremony of the Summit, directed by HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Executive Council. There are 14 Islamic Economy Award categories including Islamic Microfinance, Halal Food, Travel, Media, SME Development, and a prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award. Nominations closed on October 25th.

Key Speakers Announced:

  • Professor Nouriel Roubini, the pre-eminent economist will share his views on the future of the global economy and the possibilities of enhancing intra-OIC investment flows that are resistant to global economic fluctuations
  • H.E. Sultan Saeed Al Mansouri, Minister of the Economy, UAE, will lead a panel of global ministers to discuss the challenges facing the Islamic world and the responsibility for leaders to address the needs of their restless and youthful populations
  • Dr. Mark Mobius, the emerging markets investor, will share his perspective on the ‘new normal’ global economy and what must be done by the Islamic economies of the world to stay ahead of the curve and attract greater investment flows
