About The Forum

In October 2009, following the 15th ASEAN Summit in Cha-am, Thailand, the Board of Trade of Thailand, Thailand Management Association (TMA), and the Thai Institute of Directors Association (IOD), co-hosted the first in the series of the ASEAN Business Forum – ASEAN Business Forum 2009 – in Bangkok, Thailand. The Forum is aimed to be an annual event where ASEAN business leaders meet to update and share insights among themselves, how the progress of the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) Roadmap shall affect their businesses, what adjustments and changes they will need to adopt in response to the changing business landscape towards 2015, and what pending issues should they be addressing. A proposal for the ASEAN Business Forum 2012 is hence outlined to serve such purposes.

As ASEAN will become a sizable market that will be immensely attractive to potential investors, suppliers and customers from all over the world, it is crucial for every ASEAN country to evaluate its competitiveness and explore possible model of collaboration in order to strengthen its position in coping with the forthcoming intense competition in 2015 and beyond. How will indigenous enterprises fare in such a fast-changing environment? Are they equipped to go regional and international? How will removal of restrictions on services trade and harmonization of standards, rules of origin procedures, technical registration and conformity assessment procedures affect local producers and traders of goods and services? How to educate local businesses to cope with regionalization and internationalization? In the developed sectors, what will be the role of stock exchanges and regulators of financial markets? All these and related issues will be examined in the 2011 Forum.

Objectives of the Forum:
