Dear Oxford Business Group subscribers,

Against a background of regional financial challenge and global economic recession, the 10th GCC Banking Conference takes place in Doha, Qatar under the patronage of HE Sheikh Hamad Bin Jassim Bin Jabor Al-Thani, Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs.

Hosted by Qatar Central Bank and in collaboration with Secretariat General of The Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf, the 10th GCC Banking Conference on the 23rd and 24th March 2011 is to be held under the title of “Gulf banking and its role in GCC countries’ development in light of current changes – Reality and ambitions”. This conference boasts an outstanding line-up of government and private sector financial decision makers, all coming together to focus on topics of crucial interest to regional economies.

The agenda for this conference comprises a number of important topics, including the making of banking auditing systems and regulations in GCC member states to enhance a new era in regional banking practices. It also aims at providing a practical platform to debate and shed light on the most prominent challenges faced by GCC markets.

We are aware of the importance of our role as economic, financial, and banking sectors in bringing success to the 10th edition of such a significant conference hosted by Doha. On this occasion, I have great pleasure in inviting all Qatari and GCC economic, financial, and banking sectors to cooperate with us and contribute to this role so as to achieve the desired goals through the support and sponsorship for this event.

“On behalf of the organizing committee and the hosts, I would like to officially announce the launch of the 10th GCC Banking Conference,” said Mr. Jassem Al Baker, Head of the Organizing Committee. “I would like to personally thank the banks for their unqualified support.”
