Viewpoint: Emir Sheikh Mishal Al Ahmad Al Jaber Al Sabah

These words come in a time of mourning, in the midst of difficult circumstances, I meet you with tears in my eyes, a lump in my throat, overwhelmed by grief and pain. Words fail to express what is stirring in my heart, the feelings of sorrow and mourning for the loss of my brother and life-long companion, the late Emir, Sheikh Nawaf Al Ahmad Al Jaber Al Sabah. May Allah have mercy on him, grant him paradise and make it his eternal abode.

I stand before you to honour all that the late Sheikh contributed to our beloved nation. His achievements for the benefit of the country and its citizens were remarkable and distinguished, leaving a legacy of honourable deeds and virtuous qualities acknowledged both in Kuwait and abroad.

He gave beyond limits, representing the virtues of both modesty and greatness. He was a sheikh who valued humility, making his departure a great loss. We have always obeyed him, and never opposed his decisions and instructions, even when we did not fully agree with some of them. Our obedience to him is obedience to Allah, and our condolences and the nation’s condolences are a beautiful tribute to what the late sheikh has left us: deeds of kindness and a noble character that will remain immortal, residing in the mind and soul. We mourn him, and we say nothing but what pleases Allah.

As we stand in this position, we aim to emphasise our deepest appreciation and pride for the Kuwaiti people who have expressed with the greatest sincerity their condolences and thanks. Additionally, we aim to extend our gratitude to all the leaders of friendly countries, to everyone who has attended commemorative services and offered condolences, as well as to those who, due to unforeseen circumstances, could not attend.

We also thank everyone who expressed their condolences through social media channels. I can only say to everyone, may Allah reward you on our behalf, on behalf of Kuwait and on behalf of the family of the deceased. May Allah accept your prayers and may He keep you away from harm and evil.

My brothers and sisters, the task that stands before us is great. As we assume the reins of power – a responsibility and an oath that we have committed to – we pledge to Allah, then to the loyal Kuwaiti people, as their representatives, to be sincere citizens to our homeland. We are keen on safeguarding the interests of the country, preserving national unity, striving for prosperity and progress, adhering to noble principles and constitutional constants, remaining committed to the true religion and national constants, and upholding the law and its application. We are determined to combat all forms of corruption in the country.

To this end, we made the sovereign decision to suspend appointments, promotions, transfers and secondments under specific names until further notice. The handling of other files will follow later in line with the higher interests of the country.

In terms of governance, we, as political leaders, emphasise the importance of remaining abreast of all developments in the country, including through responsible monitoring, objective accountability and serious scrutiny within the framework of the constitution and the law. We seek to avoid negligence, shortcomings and interference with the interests of the country and its citizens. Therefore, with the guidance of Allah, we will always be with you in line with the promise and pledge we have made, remaining faithful to the homeland and its citizens.

In conclusion, I pray to Allah to help Kuwait maintain its role as a haven of security and safety, a source of goodness and peace, and a representative of progress and prosperity in the region. May He protect its loyal people, make them noble and generous, guide us to what He loves and approves, and grant us health and security in our homeland.
