Oliver Cornock

“The challenge of operating in fast developing growth markets and establishing research networks ensures OBG is a dynamic place to work where genuinely no day is ever the same.  Being part of a senior management team that has overseen the development of OBG’s brand as the foremost provider of business intelligence on the countries we cover is something of which I am immensely proud.”

Work History

Oliver began his career with OBG in 2005 as a Country Editor, working in Oman, Jordan, Bahrain and Saudi Arabia before being promoted to Managing Editor for the Middle East in 2007.  He oversees the editorial development of all reports in the region, where he spends much of his professional life analysing the dynamics of these rapidly changing markets, developing relationships with key players and identifying opportunities for investors.

“This region is a vital component of the global picture, and not just in terms of its hydrocarbon wealth,” Oliver says of the Middle East. “The drive toward diversification has never been more important given the current period of lower oil prices for those economies that have traditionally relied on this as their primary income. Broadly strong economic fundamentals, a strategic location and major infrastructure upgrades, the arguments for considering investment in the region remain strong, despite the well documented political and economic challenges.”

Due to his keen knowledge of the region, Oliver is frequently asked for his opinion in the global media and both participates on and chairs panels at high level economic conferences around the world. He has lectured at top level universities in the UK including Oxford University, Kings College London, SOAS and University College. In addition he is a regular on the BBC, CNBC, CNN and other television channels. He also contributes to a wide range of business publications including Jordan Business, Oman Economic Review and Qatar Today.

When not buried in current affairs, the economies and politics of the Middle East, Oliver enjoys fitness and is a keen horseman, amongst a wide range of other interests.
