4th Middle East Risk Management Forum 2011

Text size +-

The Chief Risk Officer’s position, by comparison to its peers, is relatively new having emerged in the 1990s. Once relegated to the back office, it is only after the credit crisis that this critical function is gaining the recognition and standing it deserves for maintaining the safety net of the financial institution. The 4th Annual Risk Management Forum for Financial Services 2011 is the leading CRO forum in the Middle East dedicated to creating the blueprint for tomorrow’s financial sphere.

Today’s financial sphere, shaped by the flurry of rules and regulations decreed post-crisis, is constantly changing due to heightened sensitivity and caution. Apart from the local policies implemented by Central Banks, the Basel Committee has introduced Basel III, aimed at tightening the capital requirements for banks. This regulatory activity raises the question whether the industry is merely reacting to the risks that crop up, rather than proactively introducing measures to ensure a resilient system. Another point of contention lies with Basel III; since Basel II’s implementation is still in process, how will the new regulations influence the compliance to Pillar II requirements. Will it make headway for financial stability or just create a balancing act?

Risk 2011 will address critical issues from the outlook of industry experts through dedicated presentations and valuable case studies. The new Strategy Panel will bring together Regulators, CRO’s and decision-makers to identify the current trends as well as share their perspective on the strategic importance of risk management.

Driven by the proficiency of industry pioneers and experts, the 4th Annual Risk Management Forum 2011 serves to foster progressive dialogue between the financial gatekeepers and industry sculptors to bolster the regional market against future challenges.
